Parking to climb up Snowdon via the Miners Path or The Pyg Track

So, you have made it to Snowdonia and you are ready to climb Snowdon via either the Miners Path or the Pyg Track!  But where do you park the car? Snowdon parking is often difficult if you arrive late and want to park at the Pen y Pass Car Park (SH 647557 / LL55 4NY). Parking at the Pen y Pass would normally be your first choice. However the carpark is very popular with climbers of Snowdon, so consequently, especially in peak season, it can be full by 7am.  Details of about parking in Snowdonia can found here.  The parking fee at Pen y Pass is currently £10 for the day and £5 for up to 4hrs.  The machines accept coins.

Do not be tempted to park on the roads near to the Pen y Pass.  All of the Llanberis Pass (apart from the lay-bys) from Nant Peris to Pen y Gwryd Hotel and the A498 down the Nant Gwynant is a designated “clearway” where parking will lead to the issuing of fixed penalty parking tickets. A short section of the A498 from Pen y Gwryd Hotel towards Capel Curig is also similarly restricted, until you reach the Conwy Council boundary.

Your best option is to park at Nant Peris (SH 607582 / LL55 4UF) and catch the Sherpa Bus (click here to see the route and timetable) to Pen y Pass.  The bus service is cheap and reliable, but it is not available from the Nant Peris car park all year round.

You might be able to find a spot on the street to park in Llanberis, but most of the parking is charged. Don’t forget people live in the village and want to park their own cars!

Also don’t forget to car share, not only is it environmentally friendly, but you are more likely to find  a spot for one car as opposed to two!
